Is the Pediatric Appointment Process the Same As for Adults?

Dr Wipperman with child patientIf your child is new to chiropractic, you may wonder what to expect. A child’s first visit to a chiropractor will be similar to the experience adults have when they go for their initial appointment.

Here’s what you and your child can expect at Ballas Chiropractic and Nutrition Centre:

Health History and Exam

Dr. Wipperman will ask about your child’s health history and perform a physical examination. During the exam, we use the surface electromyography (sEMG) to find out the areas in their spine that are irritated. This testing equipment is painless and safe.

Once our doctor has completed his evaluation, he will explain his findings and discuss the appropriate care, and frequency of visits, for your child. Perhaps best of all, there are no shots given when you see the chiropractor!

Gentle Adjustments

Rest assured that kids are not adjusted the same way as adults. Dr. Wipperman either uses the Activator instrument or Torque Release Technique instrument, both of which are gentle and use less pressure to adjust.

Regular Visits

These appointments usually don’t take as long, because once kids understand what’s going on with them after they’ve been adjusted the first couple of times, they get very used to receiving care here. Again, light pressure techniques are always used on children at every visit.

We find that many of our young patients will jump up on the table as they know what to expect. They like getting adjusted!

How Often Should My Child Receive Care?

It depends on their condition. We usually see kids a few times a week for 3-4 weeks, then transition them to wellness care once a month. There are many benefits associated with this care: it could boost their immune function, improve their sleep, promote proper growth, and more.

We look forward to helping your child enjoy optimal health with natural and effective chiropractic care. Contact us today to book an appointment!
